TOP golfer Alastair Forsyth is teeing up to design his first putting green - to be created in the ruins of the Chunghwa TV tube factory. He’s teamed up with developers who are spending £330m on transforming the site in Mossend, Lanarkshire, into new office buildings and industrial units, following the closure of the factory in 2002. Alastair - the highest ranked Scots golfer ahead of Colin Montgomerie – will work with designers on the 18-hole putting green. London-based Tritax Assets is building Centralpoint, where new industrial units will be based, and neighbouring Maxim Office Park.
The developer is also sponsoring the Paisley golfer, who will promote the Eurocentral site by sporting the Maxim logo at competitions. The putting green will cost around £100,000 and is being billed as potentially the best in Britain. It’s expected to be playable next summer. Maxim chief Karen Campbell said the green would be available to up to 7000 workers who are expected to be based in the office park and at Centralpoint.
She added: “The deal with Alastair is another example of the fact that we want to bring something special to the table in terms of everything we do on site. The level of support facilities is vital in our efforts to attract major organisations and businesses to Maxim. “By 2010 there will be 10 office buildings on site, offering 750,000 sq ft of space – the first two will be completed in November and December.”
Alastair said he would work closely with Maxim architects and construction teams on the layout of the putting green. He added:
“Having been on site, I was taken aback by the sheer scale of the development and hugely impressed by Karen Campbell’s vision.”
The Evening Times revealed last week that Aberdeen civil engineering firm TRAC International is to expand and create 100 jobs to become the first tenant at Centralpoint
